I have 20 years of teaching and childcare experience. I am a certified Orton-Gillingham instructor through the Michigan Dyslexia Institute and a certified AMI primary Montessori teacher through the Montessori Institute of San Diego. I also have a Master of Education from Loyola University of Maryland. In math, I can support learning place value of numbers as well as operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Montessori math is structured so that the child learns the place value of the decimal system up to the millions & all operations with whole numbers & fractions with a common denominator by age 6 (these methods are effective with 6+ ages as well). I apply Montessori & Orton-Gillingham methods to help struggling readers. I use my Montessori training to teacher grammar concepts such as noun, article, adjective, preposition, conjunction, verb and beginning sentence analysis (grammar lessons are usually targeted towards children 6+).
If your child is older and requires private lessons due to a learning disability or exceptionality, please consider me as part of your learning plan. I would love to be part of a team that supports inclusive education for your child. I have worked with children with autism, Down syndrome, trisomy 18, dyslexia, adhd, and other learning, medical, or developmental difficulties.
Join me for Montessori-inspired lesson plans and ideas to challenge young readers with phonetic books. I will show different ways you can use phonetic books to assess if your child is reading or simply memorizing these booklets. These lesson will help your young reader think critically with simple phonetic booklets.
